My Story
Hello everybody <3
I am running the 2025 London Marathon to raise money for MS Society, a charity which supports those affected by Multiple Sclerosis!
In 2017 my amazing mum Alicia Punch was diagnosed (not a simple process) with the condition, but it turned out she had been living with it for many years prior!
I hadn't heard of it at the time of and am still learning...
MS is a neurologial condition with no current cure, affecting roughly 150,000 people in the UK, 7/10 of which are women.
The immune systems of those with MS mistakenly attacks the nerves in your brain or spinal cord affecting the body in different ways.
Like most conditions, the symptoms are unpleasant especially as they can be unpredictable and change from day to day hour to hour. Some include chronic fatigue, shaking limbs (tremors), difficulty walking, memory troubles and difficulties with thinking.
My mum has the type known as primary progressive MS. You don’t have relapses here; instead there’s a build-up of disability/symptoms that despite being slow is relentless.
It has been a struggle for her to experience the challenges posed by MS, from being an active pastry chef, with bounds of energy to having trouble thinking clearly and walking at times.
There are still so many unknowns and so far to go in terms of MS treatments, so I'd love to raise as much money as possible to contribute to helping those affected!
I am so so lucky to be able to consider running such a distance as I have witnessed first hand the frustration when a condition such as MS dictactes how much mobility/freeedom you have. So I'm grateful to take on this challenge and will give it my best shot! xx
Any donations of any amount are beyond appreciated, and so is spreading the word xx
