Black Trail Runners is a community and campaigning charity that was set up in 202o with the aim to increase the inclusion, participation and representaiton of people of Black ethnicity in the activity of trail running.
Currently 4% of the population identifies as having Black ethnicity yet, in trail running, less than 0.7% of entrants at events are from these communities.
Why?
Barriers to access exist for this systemically marginalised comminity and Black Trail Runners works to address barriers in access, skills and representation.
How?
Through a variety of grass roots iniaitives including social runs, trail taster days, skills workshops, kit loan schemes, race fund schemes, run leader and run coach qualifications and much more. The charity is responsible for creating the world's most ethnically diverse trail running event - Black to the Trails - an annual event engaging over 70% ethnically diverse people at their 'carnival of trail running'.
If you want to see a more ethnically diverse outdoors, and running scene, support Black Trail Runners to do more of the work it does.
