My Story

Hi and Thank You for visiting my page! I have signed up to take on the 2025 TCS London Marathon and I will be raising funds to support the Royal British Legion. Their Poppy Appeal was founded to help those in need following a national crisis. Right now they are helping those who are isolated from family, facing homelessness, struggling to feed their children and are in financial crisis. They are working tirelessly to ensure that those who have served are being looked after no matter what challenges they, and the country faces. Your donation will mean they can continue to provide the life-changing support that our Armed Forces community needs and deserves.

Those that know me will know this is my first marathon attempt, I'm not the spring chicken I once was so please give generously in the knowledge that I will be giving it my all. As a veteran of the Royal Navy Submarine Service I have seen first hand the issues that the Legion is working to help people cope with. Thank You.

Edited on 24/6/24. The 24hr Treadmill Challenge described below was one of the most rewarding things I have done, it was an absolute pleasure to have been a part of the that team and I look forward to running with them again. I've moved this section of the story down the list in order to keep the page up to date.

Hi, as part of my fundraising efforts for the Poppy Appeal and the RBL and my participation in the London marathon, 4 friends and I are attempting a 24 hour treadmill relay run. It starts at 5:30 pm on Friday 21st June at Cornwood Cricket Club (https://www.cornwood.cc.) Friday evening will see the junior teams, All Stars and Acorns participating in their training sessions whilst on the Saturday the 1st XI are hosting Paignton CC in a Devon Premier League fixture with the 4th XI welcoming local rivals (and friends) Ivybridge CC 3rds.

The kitchen and bar will be open both nights so even if you don't want to watch the running, and to be fair why would you, you can still enjoy an evening or afternoon watching high quality cricket and enjoying some of Cornwood's famous hospitality.

The 5 runners are Mark Beaumont, Mark Bramley, Rich Lane, club legend Ryan Griffiths and myself. With an average age of 57 it is fair to say this will be no walk in park but with your help and financial support it will all have been worthwhile. All 5 have a background in military or public service and have agreed to this due to the importance of the Royal British Legion and the support it brings to families and people in need, all across the country.
