My Story
RUNNING LONDON MARATHON 2025 FOR THE YOUTH HOSTELS ASSOCIATION (ENGLAND & WALES)
I am VERY excited to have been chosen to help fundraise for the YHA at London Marathon 2025!
I've completed several multi-day trail events (inc Marathon des Sables 2024) and run many road marathons in the past including Athens, Amsterdam, Malta, Chester, Manchester and more. I love the atmosphere at big city marathons so my goal is to try and complete the Abbott Marathon Majors over the next few years - if I can get a place - and if my body will allow it!
Although I've completed many events running is very difficult for me now due to bone on bone knee pain and bulging disks in my lower spine. I intersperse running with long distance walking and strength training to try and work around these issue so I can continue doing what I love which is covering long distances on my own two feet.
My plan for London is to train on trails, sand and running track to lesson the impact of the training miles then hopefully pull a road marathon out of the bag on the day - no pressure!
I have Chester Marathon in the diary for 6th October 2024 so I'll know way before London how I am faring. My worst case scenario is to run / walk the events. I believe that if you can complete a race within the cut off time it doesn't matter whether you ran, walked or crawled it. The pride in finishing is just the same.
Why the YHA?
Being a lover of the great outdoors it made sense for me to support a charity that promotes the benefits of nature, travel and adventure.
The YHA helps people, especially the young gain access to the countryside and also our towns and cities via youth hostels and other accommodation.
By donating you will be helping the YHA carry on their work which includes helping to enrich the lives of young people and their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Thank you in advance for any donations however large or small. They are all appreciated!
About London Marathon
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
