My Story

Why I'm fundraising for Macmillan

Cancer has been a big part of my mum's life for over 20 years and there are so many brilliant charities and organisations out there who help with research and treatment, but some of the support she has received from Macmillan has been invaluable in the past.

It's an amazing charity that helps people and their families in so many different aspects, and fundraising for Macmillan is my way of saying thank you as well as hopefully playing a small part in ensuring that support can continue for as many people as possible.

Having people donate to such a great cause will also help drive me on when it comes to the toughest parts of training and the marathon itself, so I'm setting myself the ambitious target (for me at least!) of trying to complete it in 3h30m. Given my one other London Marathon attempt took me 4h17m, it's going to be really tough to achieve, but I know the money we raise for Macmillan will make it worth trying.

There are so many ways I want to say thank you to anyone who donates, so the first plan is to have a special running top designed for the marathon itself carrying all of your names, to then take your support out there with me on the day.

And more plans will be announced on this page!

Thank you all so much.

About us

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
