My Story

I cocked up. 2 weeks ago I watched a podcast with a man taking about  The Misogi - the Japanese concept of you do something so hard 1 time a year that has an impact on the other 364 days of the year.

In a fit of misplaced inspiration I applied for London Marathon (never actually expecting to get in) and then also signed up for half (thinking I would get in but it would be doable.)

Turns out I got in to the big one.

So - I have ten weeks to start running and get marathon-ready. I've had three knee surgeries, I haven't run in 4 years (not even a 200m warm up at the gym) and a few other health bumps in the road I've had to navigate recently.

Essentially I'm doing it to prove something to myself, and do something I really don't want to do. More than that though I am running to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Lung Cancer is a disease that is unfairly stigmatised. When people hear lung cancer they think - smoker / your own fault / combination of the two. I thought this for many years. They also don't donate to lung cancer causes as readily as others.

Turns out some people can be non-smokers, fit, do everything right, and still get lung cancer, so I'm raising money to support the incredible research efforts occurring worldwide, so that lung cancer will finally become a chronic condition you live with, rather than a killer condition you die from.

I'd appreciate your support, if only to ensure I don't bottle it nearer the start line.
