My 60th Birthday challenge
David Mooney
My Story
As I will be sixty in April, I decided to set myself a challenge for the year. For some crazy reason, I thought the London marathon would be somthing to strive for. When I got a ballot place (which I have been told is almost impossible), I then had to decide what cause could benefit from the pain, tears and blisters.
I live in a small town called Brightlingsea which is in the council area of Tendring. It is a great community where people put a lot of effort into supporting each other. One of my close friends (Mark) decided a couple of years ago to set up a group to provide support to the stroke survivors in the town.
Mark supported by a close group of friends has managed to raise funds to establish a service where stroke survivors can get weekly support based on whatever their needs are. This local team are closely affiliated and actively supported by Tendring Specialist Stroke Services
I occasionally volunteer at the weekly sessions and it is amazing to see the progress and enjoyment people get from attending these weekly events.
Therefore I have decided to try and raise as much money as I can to help support the ongoing costs of this important service
