My Story

Why I'm running

As a child, we would always go to London for the marathon, it usually fell around my birthday and it became a little tradition. We'd go to London, watch the marathon and buy a present from Hamley's or Covent Garden.

When I saw that the Marathon fell on my 40th birthday I knew that I had to run it this year (even if it seemed like the most stupid idea ever...)

Why Chickenshed

When I finished University, I started working for a theatre company just up the road from our student house.

In my time there I worked on multiple amazing shows that opened my eyes to just how inclusive theatre (and the world) should be.

Seeing children and adults with a wide range of disabilities accessing the wonders of drama, music and dance made me extremely happy.

The work that the company does is absolutely vital and an absolute lifeline to many of the young people that attend. Some of them changed my life.

Two shows in particular 'SeaChange' & 'Crime of the Century ' made me realise that I wanted to become a teacher. Sea Change made me realise that spending time with young children is extremely rewarding (something I'd previously dreaded). Crime of the Century led me to see how the education system had let down many children in the system and I wanted to become 'that adult' that listened and supported the children that needed it the most. Promising to do everything I could to give every child that I taught, the best possible start in life.

It seemed there was only one charity that I could run for and I remember my time working for the company with great pleasure and pride.

You may have seen them on BGT last year where they were a golden buzzer act!

About us

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
