Run, Doc, Run: Munir Datoo Takes on London
Dr Munir Datoo
My Story
I’m Dr. Munir Datoo, and at 64 years young, I’ve decided it’s time to step out of my comfort zone—and into a pair of running shoes. In 2025, I’ll be taking on not just one, but two big running challenges: the London Marathon in April, followed by the Hackney Half Marathon in May.
This might sound ambitious (some would say crazy) for someone who only recently started running, but I’m doing it for a cause that’s very close to my heart. I’m running to raise funds for The Zahra Trust, an incredible charity that supports some of the most vulnerable people around the world, providing essential aid like food, shelter, and education.
Training for a marathon is no walk in the park (although trust me, I’ve been doing a lot of walking too). There have been blisters, sore knees, and plenty of moments where I’ve asked myself, “What were you thinking?!” But with every step, I remind myself why I’m doing this. I’ve spent decades as a doctor helping others, and now, I want to take that compassion beyond the clinic and onto the track.
That’s where you come in. By supporting my marathon journey, you’re not just cheering me on—you’re helping to change lives. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will go directly to The Zahra Trust and the vital work they do.
So, whether you’re inspired by my determination, entertained by the idea of me huffing and puffing through 42.2 KM, or just want to support a fantastic cause, I’d be incredibly grateful for your generosity. Together, we can make every mile I run count.
I’m running to raise funds for orphans supported by The Zahra Trust, a charity dedicated to helping vulnerable children and families across some of the most challenging regions in the world. From Iraq to Afghanistan, Yemen, Lebanon, and beyond, The Zahra Trust provides life-changing support, including food, shelter, education, and healthcare, to orphans who have lost everything. These children deserve a chance at a brighter future, and with your help, we can make that possible. Every donation will go directly towards ensuring they have the tools, care, and opportunities they need to thrive. Together, we can make a lasting difference in their lives.
Thank you so much for your support—wish me luck! I’m going to need it (especially for those finish line selfies).
