Emma runs the London Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer UK
My Story
On 27th April 2025, I will be running my second marathon, this time as Dr Emma (thank you, viva examiners!) and in support of vital pancreatic cancer research.
Somehow managing to block out the most exhausting moments of last year's race from my memory, I am embarking on London Marathon number two and hoping to run my fastest race yet. Follow me on Strava to track my progress over the coming weeks.
I simply had to take up the challenge given that this year's headline charity for 2025, Pancreatic Cancer UK, is a cause that is so close to my heart.
In 2013, a close University friend passed away from pancreatic cancer at just 22. Others in our local Kew community have also lost their lives to this terrible disease.
According to Pancreatic Cancer UK statistics, half of those diagnosed die within three months of their diagnosis. 7 in 10 people with pancreatic cancer do not receive any active treatment, and survival rates have shown little improvement since the 1970s.
There is clearly an urgent need to transform outcomes for these patients.
As a cancer researcher myself, I feel privileged to work with passionate scientists and clinicians who are determined to make headway in earlier detection and treatment of some of the hardest-to-treat cancers.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is a phenomenal charity dedicated to funding research, policy and support initiatives for this particular cancer type.
Any support you can give in my fundraising mission for this important cause is greatly appreciated. And a huge thank you to those who supported and cheered me on last year!
