My Story
I vowed never to run a marathon. It's not good for you.
I'm now done with the training and - although it hasn't gone fully to plan - it looks like I might actually do it.
How did that happen?
Firstly, I went to watch some friends running the marathon last year and was blown away.
The London Marathon is a celebration of hope, creativity and resilience - of achievements of people of all shapes and sizes, with a variety of abilities, motives and stories - who refuse to give up and push through. This kind of celebration is much needed in our society and a welcome antidote to the despair we may feel when we look at global events.
Secondly, I get the chance to run for Christian Aid.
The money raised goes to our partners around the world who are themselves testimony to human creativity and resilience. Like those in Guatemala who are diversifying their crops to respond to the pressures of climate change, and speaking out to global leaders for swifter climate action. Or the churches in the Democratic Republic of Congo (where I have a personal conenction as my brother and family work there) seeking peace for their people, refusing to give up - and bringing hope in difficult times.
Thank you for your support
Graham
