My Story

I'm running the 2025 TCS London Marathon in aid of Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), the UK's leading sight loss charity and the largest community of blind and partially sighted people.

At the age of 21, during a routine opticians appointment, it was incidentally found that I had visual fields loss in both of my eyes (loss of the lower half of my peripheral vision). After an urgent trip to A&E, two MRIs and an ultrasound, I learned that I had Optic Nerve Head Drusen, a condition I probably have had since birth and I was soon registered as sight impaired.

This diagnosis left me in a bit of a shock! How could it be that something I thought was normal never was? I struggled to come to terms with what this meant and what it could mean for the future.

It was then that I was fortunate enough to talk to the Eye Clinic Liaison Officer at Queen's Hospital. It was so reassuring to be able to discuss the practicalities of being partially sighted with someone who understands, but also receive emotional support after hearing this life changing news.

I am very proud to say I will be running this marathon with my brother, Patrick, as my guide. He is over qualified, with soon to be five marathons under his belt! I hope he doesn't mind the much slower pace on this one. Thanks in advance Patrick for helping to make sure I don't fall :')

Everyday 250 people begin to lose their sight in the UK. RNIB's focus is to create a world where there are no barriers to people with sight loss.

Please support me as I take on this huge challenge for RNIB!

Here's just some of the ways your donation could help:

- £50 could help someone coming to terms with sight loss by providing emotional support and practical guidance through our Sight Loss Advice Service, both on the telephone and online.

- £35 could help provide support and advice to a parent of a child with vision impairment, who has contacted RNIB for the first time.

- £25 could help produce a lively and interactive technology show on RNIB's Connect Radio, demonstrating how an app or device can help people with sight loss communicate easily with family and friends, or navigate their way around town.

- Your donation can help the RNIB continue to fund the Eye Clinic Liaison Officers who are so vital for those navigating sight loss.

Thank you very much in advance!!
