My Story

In September 2022, our son Max was diagnosed with Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome, a rare genetic condition caused by a mutation in the ASXL3 gene.  With very little literature on this particular syndrome, we have no way of knowing what may or may not be possible for Max to achieve as he grows up. 
 
We were introduced to Dame Vera Lynn, a local charity to us who support children under 5 years old with cerebral palsy, chromosome abnormalities and rare genetic disorders across Sussex, Kent, Surrey and South London.  Max's condition means that he has global development delay and low-muscle tone, making every day tasks very challenging for him.  Dame Vera Lynn provide a range of free services, one of which we've found very valuable is the weekly conductive education sessions.  Istvan supports and pushes Max to reach his full potential and find alternative ways to carry out every day tasks; we have seen such a difference in Max, especially in the last 12 months, with huge thanks to Istvan and everyone at Dame Vera Lynn. 
 
I am extremely lucky to have been given a ballot place for the 2025 London Marathon which not only is a bucket-list experience for me but a fantastic opportunity to raise money for this amazing charity who hold a big place in our hearts and who have helped us tremendously over the last 18 months.
 
I feel very passionately about raising as much money as I can to help Dame Vera Lynn continue to provide the invaluable support to families who sadly will have similiar challenging times ahead.  If you can please replace your next coffee or meal out with a small donation, it really would mean the absolute world to me.  For those who can't donate financially but fancy coming along to London to cheer me on in April, I'll take all the cheerleaders I can - it takes a village and I will need a pretty big one to get me through those 26 miles!!
