My Story

Hello!

I'm Isabel, and I'm fundraising for The Girls' Network by running the 2025 London Marathon!

That's crazy! Have you run a marathon before?

Nope! I love running, but I never thought I'd run a marathon. This is something I would never do just for personal fulfilment, but when I got the opportunity to run for TGN I immediately signed up.

But, why??

A lot about the world right now feels overwhelming and out of control, but The Girls' Network feels like a spot of light in the midst of everything else.

The Girls' Network believe that no girl's future should be limited by her background, gender or parental income. We raise funds to support our work connecting 14-19 year old girls and nonbinary students with women mentors in our network who will help them build professional and personal skills over the course of a year.

Full transparency, I have the privilege of working for TGN and I've watched hundreds of mentees go through our programmes. The magic happens when you see the quietest mentees open up like they never do in school, connect the mentees who have it all together with mentors who understand how much work that requires, and hear the mentees say that they feel excited about their futures.

Any funds you can spare to help even more mentees access our mentoring programmes are so gratefully appreciated.

About the race

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
