My Story
I'm running the London Marathon on 27th April for The Avenues Youth Project. This inspiring youth centre just down the road in West London helps over 1000 young people by engaging them in positive, life-affirming activities such as sport, music-making, art and design, cooking and podcasting.
The charity receives no statutory funding so is reliant on donations and fundraising.
Their team of youth professionals provides a safe, caring, youth-led space in a disadvantaged inner-city area, where young people can learn, develop and build towards a brighter future.
All after-school and holiday programmes are free to access, open to all, and take place in The Avenues purpose-built youth centre just off the Harrow Road. Activities encompass sport, healthy cooking, music, art, dance, radio, skills development and career pathways.
Young people are encouraged to become volunteers, participate in social action, and to use their voices to share their ideas, opinions and needs, which in turn helps shape the youth programmes.
I've seen first hand how The Avenues helps young people and I'm extremely proud to be running the marathon for this fantastic organistaion.
I'd appreciate any sponsorship to help make the 26.2 miles slightly more bearable!
Thank you so much.
James
