My Story
I am taking on the TCS London Marathon on 27th April 2025, to support Tenovus Cancer Care and all those affected by cancer.
I have the privilege of taking on this challenge on behalf of my running club, Penarth and Dinas Runners 💙💛, who picked my name at random to run for Tenovus Cancer Care, a charity with whom P&D runners are closely linked.
I ran London back in 2013 and 2016 when I was younger and not beset by injuries. I know how tough it is- I agreed with a fellow runner at the finish line in 2016 I'd never do it again- but it is more than a run. It brings the best out of people, runners and supporters alike. It is a fantastic experience and I am so grateful to be given this opportunity again by the club.
Both my parents died from cancer. I started running after Mum died, initially to complete a 5k Race for Life and I went on to run my first marathon for her. I was fortunate to be able to dedicate my second marathon to my Dad before he died.
This marathon is for everyone out there affected by cancer. My friends who are currently fighting it, supporting people through treatment, those who have survived it and those living with loss.
For 80 years, Tenovus Cancer Care has been there to offer support, information and advice to anyone affected by cancer. In 2024, that includes services such as their free phone cancer Support Line, Benefits Advice Team, Counselling support and Mobile Support Units which deliver treatments to the heart of communities.
Tenovus Cancer Care understands what it is to live with cancer and how it affects family and friends too. Every 30 minutes someone in Wales is diagnosed with cancer and Tenovus Cancer Care will support 10% of them, but they want to be there for many more. Which is why I'm taking on the TCS London Marathon as part of Team Tenovus Cancer Care.
Thank you for any support you can give me in my fundraising efforts. No matter how big or small the donation, every penny helps to support those affected by cancer.
