My Story
Bucket list tick!
Running London has been on my bucket list for 20 years. This year I felt brave enough to put my name in the ballot. Never thinking I would get in...I did! First time! It's meant to be!
Because I got my ballot place, I got to choose to run for a charity if I wanted to. This years London Marathon Charity of the Year is Pancreatic Cancer UK. In 2019 I didn’t really know much about Pancreatic Cancer, never really heard of it. December 2019 my Auntie was diagnosed, we lost her only 4 weeks later a few days before Christmas. February 2020 my beloved Dad was diagnosed, my world crumbled as I knew exactly what it meant! We had Dad a bit longer that Auntie Ann. We lost him 3 months after his diagnosis. By far the hardest time of my life. We were in a lockdown, we drove to see him fearing we would be pulled over and told to go home. He wanted to die at home, but there was a big worry that he would die, isolated, on his own in Dorchester hospital as he spiked a fever after his first round of chemo. Thankfully he was discharged and when the time came, he passed away at home surrounded by us all.
I believe my Dad and Auntie may have played a hand in me getting my ballot place…or am I just that lucky?! Over 840 thousand people applied, and I got one! (yes, I did buy a lottery ticket that week too!
Thid is so huge for me...it actually petrifies me. Any donation will mean the world so thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
