My Story

About me

Most people will know me from having a drink in my hand and not having running shoes on my feet. Well that is going to change......(the shoe part, not the drink part).

Never one to shy away from a ridiculous challenge that I am totally not prepared for (cycling London to Paris being my last one), I am going to tick 'run London marathon' off my bucketlist in 2025. I'm totally in denial at this stage and I know I have a huge challenge that I have ahead of me to not only train but complete it. I'm not a natural runner, its hard for me, I'm going to have to train like a mad woman but I have the total honour of supporting an amazing charity in the process.

But who, I hear you cry.........Helen and Douglas House. This is an Oxfordshire hospice that supports babies and children with terminal illnesses, as well as providing support for their families. The hospice is around the corner from my house and on my training route! In my career in fertility, I have treated many children and young adults in preserving their fertility. Whilst the fertility preservation may work, unfortunately not all of the treatment for their diagnosis does work. That is where Helen and Douglas House comes in. Their incredible team work tirelessly to create a safe and comfortable environment for those children and their families in the darkest of times. It will be at mile 20, when my legs aren't working and I want to give up, that I will think of those young people that are going through something that is so much worse than me.

All that I ask is that you think about supporting me in this monumental challenge and dig around for any loose change if you are able to spare it (remember GiftAid too). I know that money can be tight, and if you cannot donate I completely understand. All I then ask is that you think of me on the 27th April 2025.......and maybe raise a glass (or a cuppa) to me whilst I haul my a** around London.

I will also be trying to organise some fundraising events over the next few months so please consider supporting these as well.

Thank you

About us

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
