My Story

I'm running the 2025 Boston & London Marathons - 2 marathons in 7 days - to raise money for the Ewings Sarcoma Research Trust (part of the Bone Cancer Research Trust) in memory of Ethan King, our beautiful son and big brother to Heidi. Ethan passed away on the 13th March 2025, just 20 days away from his 16th Birthday.

Ethan was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma in the summer of 2018 aged 9. Since then he faced, with such bravery and strength, endless chemotherapy, radiotherapy and several operations. During this time, school, friends and playtime was replaced with hospital beds and medical appointments. Finally, after a brutal year of treatment and an operation which removed multiple ribs, part of his lung and diaphragm, Ethan was in remission for over 2 years. However, sadly Ethan's cancer returned not long after the world was returning to normal following COVID, therefore much of the time when he was in remission, was spent in lockdown.

Following his relapse, over the next three and a half years he again faced gruelling treatments, months in hospital and operations including open heart surgery. He took on the challenge, never complaining, always remaining positive and enjoying and living life to it's fullest before he left us on March 13th 2025.

Ethan loved running before cancer stopped him and was a regular parkrunner (running over 70 Parkruns mostly at the tough Gadebridge cross country course). Even in remission he ran a couple of times a week with me when he was well enough but eventually the cancer took away his joy of running.

Ewings Sarcoma is a rare type of Bone Cancer which mainly affects young people. There is little government funding into reserach for this type of cancer which means treatments have barely advanced in decades. I want to raise as much as I can so that we can fund more research and find improved treatments so that anyone who has to fight this horrendous disease has a better chance of a positive outcome unlike Ethan and others before him.

The Bone Cancer Research Trust is the only charity dedicated to this disease, it is a small but national charity based in Leeds, UK. They fund ground-breaking research, life-saving awareness initiatives and provide dedicated and trustworthy information and support to patients and all their loved ones... All without any government funding. They rely 100% on people like you supporting their work through donations.

We are not setting a fundraising target but please give generously to help us raise as much as possible. Thanks in advance.
