My Story
Why I'm fundraising and running for Operation Agri
Hi, I'm Joel, a 23 year old 2nd year Politics student in Aberystwyth. I've just come off the back of the Helsinki marathon at the end of August which I did in just under 5 hours.
My Dad ran for Operation Agri in 2018 doing the London Marathon which inspired me to get into long distance running, and when I first understood the impact of the work that Operation Agri do and how it really helps some of the worlds' most disadvantaged people and regions!
Operation Agri help rural and urban development projects by attacking basic causes of poverty with the most disadvantaged people in the world. There are currently 10 projects, helping in 10 different countries and two different continents.
The money is going towards the IMARIKA project, a project run in Tanzania for a rural community of 600,000. They help organise community groups that run village community banking, conservation agriculture and many other things. Their Farming Partners Initiative trains up to 125 farmers in sustainable farming in each 2-year phase to improve crop yields in the face of climate change.
