My Story
In November 2022 my sister Caroline was diagnosed with Stage 3, Grade 3, Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC). A rare and aggressive type of breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. She was just 32 at the time.
A few weeks after her diagnosis, we chanced upon a Breast Cancer Now stand at a Christmas market, and the wonderful volunteers provided hope at what was a particularly worrying and uncertain time for us all. They discussed all the new treatments they were funding and the progress being made daily to support those diagnosed with breast cancer.
Following chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, Caroline was given the 'all clear' in Summer 23. Sadly, just six months later we received the news that her cancer was back and had spread to other areas of her body, classed as stage 4.
Caroline passed away on 1st January this year, she fought so bravely through all her treatment, defying the odds and showing strength and resilience in abundance. She benefitted from many of the new treatments that charities like Breast Cancer Now are directly funding, giving us precious extra time as a family, and I'm so incredibly happy to be able to raise money for them to help say thank you and support future developments in this space.
I will also be running the marathon in memory of an extremely special person, Will who we also lost last year. Will was always my biggest cheerleader and a huge support to me and my family during Caroline's battle, prior to his sudden and untimely death. Will pushed me to sign up for the marathon every year and was so excited at the prospect of watching me run. Although he can not be with me in person on the day, I know he will be cheering me on and pushing me to the finish line.
Thank you for your donation!
