My Story
I'm Running the London Marathon for BHF
In 2011, I developed a heart condition that caused my heart to beat slower than normal. This led to syncope, a sudden loss of consciousness due to low blood pressure and heart rate. Bradycardia further lowered my heart rate, making everyday life increasingly difficult. After managing the condition for 10 years, it progressed to the point where I could no longer live a normal life.
In 2021, I had a Medtronic Micra pacemaker fitted—and it changed my life.
Now, I’m taking on the London Marathon to support the British Heart Foundation, a cause close to my heart. Even more special, my son, Fran, is running it too! While we may not cross the finish line together (he’ll probably fly ahead!), sharing this journey is truly amazing.
I would be incredibly grateful for any donations to this fantastic charity. Every contribution makes a difference!
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
