My Story

I'm very proud to be joining #teamVICTA to run the London Marathon.

Wise people say, never let your children set you challenges! I've been a runner my entire adult life. It's my happy place. I run a few half-marathons every year and, after the last one, my 9 year old son dared me to run a full marathon.

I accepted his dare, with the agreement that he would help me find a good charity to support. We looked for a charity that helps children and our research led us to VICTA. The work that VICTA does with visually impaired children and young people and the support they give families through various stages of life makes a real impact and I'm really proud to be able to contribute to this!

When I started talking about my fundraising, I was really pleased to find that a young artist whose work I admire was a VICTA Young Ambassador and that VICTA provided support to local friends after their daughter received a visual impairment diagnosis.

Please help me make a difference for VICTA this year so they can continue changing the lives of children and young adults with sight loss.

Each day, four more children will be diagnosed with sight loss.
Vision-impaired children are twice as likely to be bullied.
1/3 will suffer from depression and other mental health issues.

VICTA is a small but national charity in the UK that empowers children and young adults who are blind or partially sighted and their families. Aware that feelings of isolation and loneliness are dominant within the world of vision impairment, VICTA use activity-based learning as a positive setting for social interaction. For blind and partially sighted young people, involvement in team-based activities can be positively associated with social acceptance and a sense of belonging, especially where such involvement is characterised by positive coaching, progressive skill development and peer support. VICTA work hard to help young people question limiting presumptions they might have, helping them to view themselves and their potential in a new way. VICTA want them to be able to make a difference to their own lives.

Donate today to help VICTA provide:

  • Young Adult Activities which support the development of life skills and the transition into adulthood and the workplace
