My Story

I'm extremely proud to announce that i will be running the 2025 London Marathon as part of team 'Break The Cycle' for The Forward Trust

The Forward Trust empowers people to break the cycles of addiction or crime to move forward with their lives. Since 1991, they have been working with people to build positive and productive futures.

They believe that anyone is capable of lasting change. Their services have supported thousands of people to make changes to create better lives with jobs, family, friends and build a sense of community.

Forward believe that everyone can live a fulfilling life, whatever their past. If you’re affected by drug or alcohol issues, past offending, homelessness or unemployment: help is out there!

In 2018 I finally admitted to myself that I had a severe Alcohol, Drug & Gambling addiction. My life spiralled out of control after leading a very heavy party lifestyle. I took the help i needed to get me clean & sober, and have continued to work on myself on daily basis.

Whilst in active addiction i had multiple serious accidents. In 2016 I suffered the worst to date....a snapped Tib & Fib in my right lower leg. This was operated on, metal pins and plates were incerted and I received physio therapy to allow me to walk properly again. Just one year after this, in another serious accident on my right leg I crushed my big toe & toe next to it. This resulted in my toes having to be re-built. In the words of my Mum (July 2024) 'Im suprised you have reached the age you are Martyn'.Thanks Mum.....

My own journey has led me to work within the addiction support services, and now proud to support clients of the Forward Trust from day to day . This is on the new Alcohol High Intensity User Project I lead with the addiciton charity Phoenix Futures.

On Sunday 27th April 2025 I take on my biggest challenge to date, in completing the London Marathon. I never ever thought this would be possible....

I am living proof that you can go on to live a life of fulfilment after active addiction, and I want to inspire and give hope to others that anything is possible.

I really hope you can support me to acheive my fundraising target, by donating what you can to this wonderful charity so close to my heart.

Thanks so much,

Martyn
