Matt Jones - Running my first marathon for Dementia UK!
Matt Jones
My Story
Running the London Marathon has always been a dream of mine, but running it for Dementia UK means it has become a deep-routed, profound mission, especially as I have never run a single step further than a half marathon before!
This cause is particularly meaningful to me as dementia has deeply impacted my family, affecting both of my beloved grandparents. Both of them suffered in the later years of their life, supported so wonderfully by my parents and sister, alongside an army of incredible carers.
Dementia is a devastating condition that gradually erases the very essence of those we love, leaving families heartbroken and struggling to cope. My grandparents were not only cornerstones of our family, but also sources of wisdom, love, and absolute joy. Watching their gradual decline was a heart-breaking experience. Their struggle has motivated me to take action, to raise awareness, and to support those who are on a similar path.
Running for Dementia UK is not just about the race day itself; it’s about honouring the memory of my grandparents and turning pain into a positive force for change. It’s about giving back to an organisation that tirelessly works to improve the lives of those affected by dementia. It’s about standing with countless families who are currently facing the challenges of this condition and showing them they are not alone.
