My Story
I am running the London Marathon for Dementia UK because my grandfather suffered with vascular dementia in his later years, and my grandmother in law is diagnosed now too.
Whether through personal experiences with family members or witnessing the struggles of friends, many of you will have seen firsthand the emotional and physical toll this devastating condition takes on both individuals and their loved ones. Dementia doesn’t just affect the person diagnosed, but everyone in their support network, creating a ripple effect that touches families, friends, and communities. By running the marathon, I hope to raise awareness and funds for Dementia UK, so that they can continue their vital work providing specialist support and care to those affected by dementia.
Dementia UK offers an invaluable service with its network of Admiral Nurses, who provide expert advice and emotional support to families and carers. Their unique, person-centered approach helps those affected by dementia navigate the complexities of the condition with dignity and respect. I want to contribute to ensuring that more families can access this essential service, and that Dementia UK can continue expanding its reach. The more we understand dementia, the better we can help those living with it, and this is where organizations like Dementia UK make an extraordinary difference in the lives of many.
Running the london marathon is a huge challenge for me. Whilst I have run many marathons in the past, over recent years with the growth of my family, fitness has taken a step back and I am starting my running journey at square 1 with a significant amount of weight to lose. I want to use it as a catalyst to improve my pwn physical and mental wellbeing.
Its also an opportunity to turn my determination into meaningful action. Every mile I run is a step towards raising vital funds for research, resources, and support services. By sharing my journey with others, I aim to inspire more people to get involved, whether it’s through fundraising, spreading awareness, or simply offering a helping hand to those in need. Ultimately, this marathon represents my commitment to fighting dementia and supporting the incredible work that Dementia UK does, so we can all move closer to a world where no one faces dementia alone.
