My Story
My story
I have been supported by guide dogs since I got my first guide dog whilst I was at university at the age of 19. I am now in my 40's and working with my 4th guide dog Taylor who is in my profile picture. I still remember the feeling when I took my first walk with a guide dog, it was amazing. I had such a sense of freedom and independence again. Having a guide dog has given me the confidence to go out, work and live life to the full.
Guide dogs is an amazing charity but it has a lot of costs. Their work includes training and care for the dogs as well as the owners. Trainers are always available to give support, offer advice and make sure we continue to work safely as a partnership. The charity also works in the areas of research into dog welfare and campaigning for the rights and access for visually impaired people. Your donations will help to keep this vital work going.
I will be running the marathon with a guide runner and we both appreciate your support.
Thank you. Melissa
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
