My Story
I'm running the TCS London Marathon in April 2025 to raise money and awareness for West London Action for Children (WLAC). WLAC is a fantastic charity who provide free and confidential therapy and counselling to children, parents and carers across West London.
Children’s mental health is not only critical for their present well-being but also for their future development, academic success, relationships, and overall quality of life. Addressing mental health early ensures that children have the tools they need to grow into healthy, resilient, and well-adjusted adults.
However over the last couple of years, children were also impacted by the effects of the covid pandemic, disruption to their education and impact on mental health, with increased anxiety and stress.
Whilst many children showed resilience during the pandemic. The long term effects on children still remains a concern, especially for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
WLAC helps children build confidence and express themselves in safe, supportive spaces. Their work strengthens families and changes lives. With rising pressures on families and NHS waiting lists, the services of this independent charity are more important than ever.
As a small, local independent charity, West London Action for Children offers free, time-unlimited, professional solution-focused counselling and therapy services to children, young people and families on low incomes, living in Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington & Chelsea. Their experienced team of therapists work flexibly to engage and support clients and their families to help them recognise their strengths, and build confidence and resilience to bring about long term change, enabling children and young people to fulfil their potential. Last year they worked with over 520 families.
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
