My Story

So the time has finally come to take on a marathon! Why now you ask? The opportunity knocked and I couldn't say no, to be able to run and raise money for a charity I feel hugely passionate about and the amazing work they do.

Let's not pretend, mental wellbeing effects us all - on the good and not so good days. I've had my struggles but on the whole I have lots more good days than not (eternal optimist!) and I've also been fortunate enough to be able to access counselling/therapy when I've needed to. I appreciate that not everyone can access the professional help when they might need it most and this feels incredibly unfair; be that awareness, cost, shame... or many other reasons.

I have also personally found solice in being in nature. Lockdown kicked off an increased period of time walking (I know I wasn't the only one!!) either solo or with friends, and then took the form of completing the National 3 peaks in 24 hours with one of my best friends, and one of the best memories we will have together! We completed this and raised money for Mind Charity... you can see a theme here.

To now be able to run London Marathon (bucket list) for Mind Over Mountains combines my passion for being outside and aligns to my desire to increase support for those who need it.

Now, those who know me know that I'm very active anyway and I do love a challenge. Please do not let this fool you into thinking this will be at all easy for me!! There is a very good reason I am yet to do a marathon... it scares me (do I have the mental toughness?) and it's one hell of a commitment (22 weeks of training and combining it with all the other activities I like to do!) but I am up for it, and know that when it gets tough, there's a really brilliant reason why I am doing this.

Donations, words of advice, pep talks of support, running buddies all very very welcome.

Mind Over Mountains - Project 500

The money raised will go towards Project 500. Project 500 is a ground-breaking movement to get individuals, organisations and schools active in nature, whilst raising crucial funds to help Mind over Mountatins to scale their charity and drive meaningful change. The project aims to grow and develop services to reach many more people and support them to enhance and sustain their mental health.

Here are some ways in which your donation could help...

  • £60 could fund a follow on coaching or couselling session for an individual
  • £90 could fund the full cost of a bursary place on a wellbeing walk
  • £275 could fund the full cost of a bursary place on a weekend retreat
