My Story
Patricia’s 2025 Runathon
This year I have a busy schedule of challenges to focus on. So far that list is as follows:
March: Bath Half Marathon,
April: Newport Half Marathon,
April: London Marathon,
May: Exeter Half Marathon,
June Swansea Half Marathon,
June or July run from my local Boys and Girls affiliated club in Dowlais, Merthyr Tydfil to the Charity’s head office in Pencoed, Bridgend 25 miles.
August: Nottingham Half Marathon.
October Cardiff Half Marathon,
I am delighted to be running the London Marathon 2025 in support of Boys and Girls Clubs of Wales (BGC Wales)
I live very near to Dowlais Community Centre, Stephen & George Charitable Trust, a member club of BGC Wales, where my daughter is a child volunteer. My journey to marathon running is deeply personal — after experiencing a series of bereavements, I turned to running as a way to cope with grief, improve my mental wellbeing, and regain a sense of strength and resilience.
Living on edge of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park (Brecon Beacons) I am spoilt for choice of beautiful local running routes. It can be a challenging place to train, in the mountains, lots of inclines and very regular wind and rain. However, I am blessed with almost unlimited kilometres that I can run on local traffic free paths and quiet lanes. I also sit as a magistrate on the Mid Wales Bench, mostly in Merthyr family and adult courts. I am taking on this incredible challenge to give back to the organisation that has played a vital role in my community. By running the 26.2 miles / 42.2 km, I hope to raise awareness and funds to support the invaluable work of BGC Wales, ensuring that children and young people in Wales continue to benefit from their member clubs, activities, and safe spaces they provide.
Thank you for giving your time to read my story. If you’d like to support BGC Wales, in recognition of my efforts, both they and I would be very grateful of all donations to this wonderful organisation.
Finally, any virtual power-ups always appreciated via socials, in person or as a message when you donate.
About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
