My Story
Why I am running for Christian Aid?
Christian Aid exists to create a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty. Since 1945, when British and Irish churches started to help refugees following the Second World War, they have now helped 3.3 million people.
Christian Aid seeks to provide humanitarian relief and long-term development support for poor communities worldwide, while highlighting suffering, tackling injustice and championing people’s rights.
And that's why am I running for Christian Aid. In 2023, there were 17,004 potential victims of modern slavery identified in the UK. The number of people referred to the Home Office’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM) was up slightly from 16,921 in 2022. It is the highest annual number since the NRM began in 2009. Referrals for women and children were also at a record high. Children made up more than four in 10 referrals, totalling 7,432. Females accounted for 24% of all referrals, totalling 4,088, compared to 21% or 3,634 in 2022.
On my own I can not do very much to change this, however by running for Christian Aid, who have 275 projects implemented globally, I can in a small way help fund their aim of creating a world where everyone can live a full life, free from poverty.
That's why I will be pushing my 61 year old body, to run 26.2 miles in April!
