My Story

On 27 April 2025, I’ll be taking on the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life: running the London Marathon.

I’m running to support BCCS (Brentwood Catholic Children's Society), a charity dedicated to supporting children and young people’s emotional well-being and mental health across Essex and East London. Through specialist counselling and pastoral care, they provide a safe space for children to be heard and supported, helping them navigate challenges like anxiety, grief, and trauma. Having seen the impact of this work through my wife, Donna, who has been part of their team for many years, I know just how life-changing their support can be.

The demand for counselling services has grown significantly in recent years, and BCCS continues to work tirelessly to meet this need. I know that every donation will help them reach more children and young people, ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve.

While raising money for BCCS is my main goal, taking on the marathon also holds personal significance. In my professional life, I’ve spent many years encouraging others to step out of their comfort zones, follow passions, take on challenges, and not put things off. Yet, I’ve come to realise I haven’t always followed that advice myself.

Running a marathon has always felt like one of those ‘one day’ goals. For as long as I can remember, each year when the marathon is on TV, I’ll mutter, ‘I’d love to do the marathon one day’ and then proceed to do absolutely nothing about it. By the time I set foot on the start line, I’ll be 47, and having been given this opportunity to run for such a great cause, it feels like the perfect moment to scratch that itch and achieve something just for me.

My goal is to raise at least £2,000, and every penny will go directly to BCCS to help them reach more children and young people in need.

I’m under no illusion that this is going to be easy, and I just hope the body holds up. But knowing that every mile I cover will help BCCS continue their incredible work gives me all the motivation I need.

If you can, please consider donating. Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a difference.

Thank you for your support, encouragement, and generosity.
