My Story
In October 2018 my daughter, Cecilia, suffered a brain bleed as a complication of a catheter heart procedure at Royal Brompton Hospital. She had been diagnosed with 3 holes in her heart at birth (PDA, ASSD and VSD) and was having the PDA closed. The brain bleed led to hydrocephalus and she was rushed across London by ambulance to GOSH where, the next day, she underwent a lifesaving brain surgery.
Cecilia spent a month at GOSH under the excellent care of neurosurgeons, neurologists, cardiologists and the amazing team of specialist nurses.
In 2023 Cecilia suffered two prolonged seizures brought on by the after effects of her brain bleed and is now diagnosed epileptic. She is once more under the expert care of the neurologists at GOSH who are managing the condition.
She underwent open heart surgery in November 2023 at the Royal Brompton Hospital to close the hole in her heart and resect some enlarged heart muscle that had developed as a side effect of her VSD.
Every day, around 750 seriously ill children and young people are seen at Great Ormond Street Hospital from all over the UK.
Every day, young lives hang in the balance as patients, families and staff battle the most complex illnesses. Every day, the brightest minds come together to achieve pioneering medical breakthroughs that change the lives of thousands of children – and change the world.
Despite the greatest challenges a child can face, the hospital is a place where being sick does not always mean being sad. And it’s a place where you’ll find – today and every day – some of the bravest people you could ever meet.
This extraordinary hospital has always depended on charitable support, and every day is a chance for you to make a difference.
I'm taking part in the 2025 TCS London Marathon for Team GOSH, and by sponsoring me, you are making a difference to the lives of seriously ill children including my own Cecilia, so thank you.
