My Story

On 27th April I'm going to attempt to run the London marathon!

I'm running for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, a charity that provides support to our armed forces personnel and their families. I've seen the help they've given to veterans who are constituents of mine, when they really needed it.

Veterans are the best of us. They've dedicated their lives to our country and deserve our gratitude and support. We've made progress in recent years, but there's a lot more we can do for them and their families.

In particular, I'm supporting work in Northern Ireland and for those who served there. I am deeply proud of the generation of servicemen and women who sacrificed so much during the period of the Troubles. There would not be the peace enjoyed today in Northern Ireland and across Great Britain without their supreme sacrifices and achievements and too often they don't get the support and recognition they deserve.

Getting fit and healthy over the last year or so, and losing a few pounds along the way, has been incredibly rewarding for me. Taking up running has been a big part of that journey. Nevertheless this will be a real challenge.

I know that times are tough, but if you were able to support this fantastic charity, it would be hugely appreciated.

And if you see me struggling around London, please give me a wave!

Best wishes.
Robert
