My Story

I'm Sam, Sustainability Manager at Field Studies Council. I'm running the London Marathon on 27th April 2025 to raise fund for Field Studies Council.

I'd really appreciate your support to help more children and young people from under-represented groups have the opportunity to take part in an outdoor learning experience with Field Studies Council.

I'm running my training miles with Mel my trusty rescue dog, look out for more updates as we get closer to the event!

Your donation will go towards providing financial support for young people to take part in a Field Studies Council experience through Grants for Schools, Young Darwin Scholarship or other similar initiatives.

Field Studies Council

The UK’s outdoor education charity, welcoming muddy boots and the buzz of learning at our centres since 1943 – Making outdoor education easier to access.

Our mission is to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about and connect with the natural environment and be passionate about preserving its future.

Help us make Outdoor learning & Environmental education accessible to all.

We want to provide more opportunities for people to undertake Fieldwork; which covers everything from traditional science and geography habitat investigations and river studies through to discovery of local spaces through to orienteering, mountain hike challenges, raft building, gorge walking and minibeast hunts.

In 2023 we supported over 120,000 learners which included:

  • 1,659 children through our Grants for Schools programme
  • 80 young people through our Young Darwin Scholars programme
  • 4,211 learners through other charitable activities at our 12 Residential Centres, 7 Day Centres and through virtual learning.

London Marathon

The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.

Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.

What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
