My Story

Wooden Spoon the children’s charity of rugby.

In the past year, Wooden Spoon raised and distributed £1,000,700 in grants to support 107 charitable projects helping over 113,000 children and young people living with disabilities, or who are disadvantaged or disenfranchised.

Their vision is that through the power of rugby, every child and young person has access to the best life opportunities, no matter what their background.

I want to help positively transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people who need our help. It all starts with our children...right?

If we can help our children get a better start, then surely the future will be better for us all!

I am not a runner by nature, 26.2 miles will be a huge challenge for me, but I am determined to run the London Marathon and raise money for this wonderful charity. Obviously raising money for a superb charity is the main thing, but to be honest it's not the ONLY thing.

My kids are not really kids anymore. Our son is 22 and our daughter is 20. I've always been passionate about young people continuing to remain active even after they've stopped playing sport at school and university, and I hope against hope that perhaps I can inspire THEM to stay active and never become couch Maris Pipers.

As I continue on this journey (I'm up to doing 10K park runs now), any donation you can give will add fuel to my fire. It's going to get harder for me from here on in, the rain will be lashing down and the motivation to get out of bed at 6am to put the yards in will become ever more elusive. Any donation you can give will obviously go to a great cause, but in the short term seeing it rack up in my "sponsorship so far" column will help to spur me on with my training.

Thank you so much in advance, Sarah.
