My Story

The Royal British Legion is best known for leading our period of remembrance every November with the poppy at the centre of all commemorations.

As well as leading remembrance, a big part of the RBL is providing real tangible support to the serving military, veterans and their families. Every year the charity is approached by over 90,000 people seeking help. Examples of support from the charity include:

  • Providing emergency accommodation for a veteran struggling to transition to civilian life and with nowhere to live
  • Covering the cost of a school uniform to ensure a veteran's child can attend school
  • Providing an Admiral Nurse to support a family affected by dementia
  • Inviting wounded, injured or sick Serving personnel to our Battle Back Centre, to take part in adaptive sport activities alongside expert coaching with other veterans to build confidence and motivation, to aid a transition to civilian life

I'll be running the London Marathon in memory of those who did not come home and in support of those who did, but still need our help.

The banner photo at the top of this page was taken on our return from serving in Afghanistan in 2009 where we lost Corporal Rob Deering. I would also like to to remember Lieutenant Jo Dyer who didn't come home from Iraq in 2007.

Please give what you can to support all veterans and families who still need our help.
