My Story
I have been very fortunate to have grown up in a house around animals. From cats and dogs to tortoises and budgies, a big part of my life can be defined by the love and affection given to me by pets.
The story I would like to share with you specifically, and indeed, a story that is close to my heart, is that of my childhood dog Esma ('Ezzi' to her pals). She was the sweetest, most loyal Labrador one could ask for.
Unfortunately, the start of her life was one of great distress. Esma was found by my dad and I while we were out on a landscaping job. We noticed she was severely neglected, without sufficient food and water and had been abandoned by her owner who went on holiday.
After discussions with the owner, who made it clear he didn’t want her, we gave her a new home with us. It was clear she was very frightened as we discovered the true details behind her neglect. Broken tail, underweight and severely bruised over her body to name a few. Her trust issues and fear of humans became apparent, and the patience required to get her back to health was a long challenging process. As a pet loving family, we did everything in our power to get her all treatment, love and care she needed and eventually she learned to trust again. She was the most wonderful pet who defined my childhood and whilst I know Esma's story is not an isolated one, to run for all those pets who are in need, for people who struggle to pay their pet bills and those who grieve like many of us have for losing a pet, makes running for Blue Cross all that more special.
I live with my two little dogs called Tiggy and Winnie (Winnie is the one in the photo) who really make my house a home. I have never run the London Marathon before (or any Marathon for that matter) but I am really excited to do this for such an incredible cause.
I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who provides a donation whilst I undertake this challenge and know that we can make a difference and give a voice to those that do not have one.
Thank you for your support
