Running for Jake
My Story
My why..
As most of you know this year it is 21 years since my nephew Jake died. He was 11 when he was diagnosed, he had a fit at home on a saturday night at the end of January and spent the next 7 months having tests, surgery, chemo, transfusions and more. It was tough but he just got on with it, he even took his SATs whilst in hospital in preparation for Grammar School, but, he never made it. Jake passed away on 16th August 2004. It still feels like yesterday, and a day never goes by when Jake does not enter my thoughts.
Over the years we have raised around £25k through our annual quiz, a couple of sports days, car boot sales, bike rides and various road races. All have always been supported by YOU, our family and friends......This one though, is my biggest challenge yet, 26.1 miles eeekkk
I am half way through my training, I'm way to old for this but and when its dark and cold and my legs hurt, I just smile and remember why I am running. Neuroblastoma UK funds essential research to find a cure for this evil disease. It's the third biggest cancer in children under 5 and has the worst survival rates at less than 50%. So if you have a moment, please press donate and help us find a cure for this horrid disease. I'll do Jake proud and cross that line running, walking or even crawling, I won't let him down and I know he will be somewhere cheering me across the line!
